On February 17, 2007, the last day of the lunar calendar was celebrated. It is a Chinese tradition to buy lots of fireworks that are very loud. Everybody warned me about this very special night and upcoming days. I could not believe it! Since the afternoon, many people burned off their fireworks and firecrackers. At midnight, it was so loud and it felt like that bombs are falling down. It is amazing that fireworks can be so nice, but also that they can be annoying. I could not sleep all night due to the noise level. It will not stop until the holidays are over. The reason behind it is that the noise will keep the devils away. All over the world, fireworks only last like 10 or 20 minutes, but here it is completely different. It is nice to experience this tradition, but it is also very dangerous. As a result, I stayed home and saw the fireworks from my window. Hence, you can buy them even from trucks. Where is the security?
Gestern war der letzte Tag in dem Chinesischen Kalendar (Silvester). Es ist eine Tradition, dass an diesem Tag genug geböllert wird und dieses praktisch fünf Tage lang geht. Einige Leute haben mich gewarnt, aber ich habe es nie so richtig geglaubt. Es ist wie damals bei der Bundeswehr im Manöver. Überall kracht es und Raketen oder Knallfrösche gehen los. Jedoch ist es ein wenig anders hier, denn man kauft eine Box mit so 100 Raketen und dann gehen sie nacheinander los. Ausserdem kann man die Lautstärke auswählen. Krach vertreibt die Teufel und deshalb muss es laut sein. Es ist ziemlich heftig, denn alle fünf Minuten hört man Raketen oder Böller und man kann kaum schlafen. Es ist schon einzigartig, denn normalerweise dauert ein Feuerwerk ja 10 bis 20 Minuten. Hier gibt es so etwas nicht. Ich hoffe, dass ich die weiteren Tage noch überleben werde. Im übrigen, kann man die Böller einfach so vom Lastwagen kaufen. Es gibt keinen TÜV hier!
